About Reese Jaxon
I’m proudly known as a Mum (or rather Mu-u-uum) and an Auntie! I write using the author name REESE JAXON, which is made up by using the initials of the youngest characters in my books and my family's beloved pet dog Jackson, also featured throughout my debut book (sadly, he now lives Over the Rainbow). They are my inspiration, my world and I love them all!
When my debut book was released, their excitement was unforgettable, especially when they spotted themselves in the pages! Every character in the story is based on a family member and each scene has been carefully created using combined photographs of lovely memories.
My Story
My debut children’s book came from a quiet, powerful moment—a photo of my son lost in thought, his gaze full of curiosity. When I gently asked, “What are you thinking?” he had simply replied, “Just wondering.” That heartfelt response captured the very essence of childhood wonder and became the heartbeat of the story. It reminded me how imagination often begins in silence, in the spaces where questions bloom.
Before becoming an author, I spent almost two decades working in schools as Special Educational Needs Support, helping countless children learn to read, write and express themselves with confidence. I’ve had the privilege of working with children across a wide range of ages and abilities, with a particular focus on supporting those who need a little extra support to help them thrive.
My classroom experience taught me that literacy isn’t just about decoding words, it’s also about unlocking ideas, emotions and creativity. I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with many incredible teachers whose creative, engaging lessons have sparked ideas for my own workshops and storytelling sessions.
I live near Manchester, I'm surrounded by a mix of city craziness and the contrasting countryside calm, it's an ideal setting for sparking my book ideas. From local parks, farms and nature reserves, to the nearby Lovely Lake District, Wonderful Wales and Bustling Blackpool, inspiration is never far from home.
My family live in Edinburgh and I make the journey up-north (that's what they say!) as often as I can.
My Passion
My passion is to ignite excitement around reading and help children feel confident using their imaginations. I want them to feel free to wonder, to ask questions and to dream big - because that’s where the magic begins.
Some children find expressing themselves comes naturally. For others, finding the words or ideas can feel like a challenge. That’s why I’ve drawn on a concept I used during my years working in schools, supporting early reading and writing development. It’s called 'Read to me… Talk to me…'. It's a simple yet powerful approach that encourages conversation, curiosity and connection through storytelling and wonder. It’s rooted in the belief that every child has something to say and sometimes they just need a gentle spark to get started.
