The County Project
What is The County Project?
My vision was to publish a book and raise funds for charity. To make it more special, I contacted a local school and invited the pupils to work with me and illustrate the book. The County Project is a collaboration with Alexandra Park Primary School and myself. Together, I Wonder at Edgeley Park has been brought to life. We have created a limited edition children's book to raise funds for Stockport County Community Trust. I selected Alexandra Park Primary because, on their doorstep is Stockport County's Edgeley Park Stadium
And so, The County Project began.

Alexandra Park Primary School
I have the pleasure of working with Alexandra Park Primary School alongside Stockport County Community Trust, where the brilliant pupils have been hard at work creating illustrations for my upcoming children’s book, I Wonder at Edgeley Park.
As a children’s author, I’ve written stories inspired by all sorts of exciting places — from the park, to seaside adventures to life on the farm — but this latest project celebrates somewhere much closer to home: Stockport County’s Edgeley Park.
The County Project began with an idea shaped by my own memories of visiting Edgeley Park with my children. Walking through the courtyard, meeting Vernon Bear, feeling the buzz of matchday. The book captures the magic of watching football for the first time through a child’s eyes. The illustrations are created by the pupils which adds a special unique authenticity to the illustrations!
I Wonder at Edgeley Park is a celebration of Stockport County’s matchday magic and the joy of seeing football through a child’s eyes. And what better way to show this than through ideas and illustrations created by pupils, inspired by their own first visits to Edgeley Park.
The talented pupils of Alexandra Park Primary School are designing the illustrations for this very special book. They are working collaboratively within their teams, planning their pages together. Every pupil in the year group is sharing ideas and sketching their pages. It has been wonderful to see how well they work together, their enthusiasm for the project is inspiring.
From early doodles to confident sketches, the pupils are working hard and embracing the illustration and design process with curiosity and energy. They have brought their own memories of their first visit to Edgeley Park into their work, adding authenticity, excitement and unique experiences to every page.
The concept behind the illustrations is that although many people go to Edgeley Park to watch Stockport County play, every single person has a different experience and sees things from a different perspective. They may have been a flag bearer, a team mascot, sitting high up in the Cheadle End near the drums, in the Family Stand or behind the net. They may even have missed a goal because they were watching the hustle and bustle in the crowd — or eating a burger.
